Business Areas

The core competency involved in ground handling is punctual and efficient aircraft handling.

Day after day, we go all out to ensure this for all types of aircraft and cargo.

Our excellently trained employees handle up to 1200 movements a day. Thanks to diligent loading and unloading processes, the share of misrouted baggage is less than 0.024%.

The ramp service performs the entire range of handling activities, including ramp supervision and operations, aircraft acceptance and pushback, loading and unloading. A wide range of services for transporting passengers, crew members, baggage, cargo and mail is also offered. In addition, an aircraft replenishment services team offers a comprehensive portfolio of services for replenishing the fresh water supplies of aircraft, including toilet services.

A commitment to high quality is met by continually evaluating performance to ensure compliance with agreed standards of quality and service. Along with regular talks with customers and on-site quality checks, this ensures that that their needs and wishes are met in line with the highest possible standards – day after day after day.

Passenger services are one of the most important prerequisites for successfully operating an airline. They should consist of a comprehensive offering that can be optimally adjusted to meet different passenger requirements.

Our passenger services team quickly and flexibly gives each passenger exactly the right amount of personal attention that they need – with a smile. It is multicultural, highly competent, friendly, and experienced, with origins and languages that are just as diverse as those of their guests. Fraport Ground Services provides the entire range of check-in services, fine-tuning them to meet the needs of all passengers.

We are well aware of the fact that every airline has its own unique services that require attention. The members of our teams therefore receive constant training with a focus on each airline’s specific requirements.

After a flight arrives, our arrival services team will meet and greet the passengers and explain where to go to a connecting flight or the baggage claim area.

How baggage is delivered to passengers after arrival is an important factor affecting how an airline’s overall service is perceived. If passengers experience any problems on arrival, such as damaged or missing baggage items, our lost & found team is available to help. We have full access to the WorldTracer™ service for tracking lost and delayed baggage, and we work diligently to find missing items and relay them to customers as quickly as possible.

Handling of business and private aircraft is a full-scale premium service. Fraport Ground Services provides a first-class reception, with a topnotch customer service team that takes care of meeting all requirements and providing all requested services.

The GAT is the ideal place for business and private aircraft to take off and land at Frankfurt Airport. To ensure smooth, speedy departures from and arrivals in Germany, the terminal has its own customs and passenger inspection facility.

Right in the GAT there are conference rooms for holding meetings very close to the aircraft while the crews relax in a separate lounge. The terminal’s location in the south of the airport close to Germany’s most important motorway intersection ensures fast access and convenient onward travel using ground transportation.

The Executive Aviation Terminal Services can be reached daily between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.; H24 PPR; FBO 24h

Its experienced experts provide a wide range of premium services that include looking after guests and crews, an exclusive fleet of vehicles for ground transportation, and complete aircraft handling.

The fact that the company is able to take advantage of the Fraport Group’s extensive network and resources makes it an especially reliable and flexible partner.

After you arrive or take off, the team is also happy to arrange third-party services such as VIP catering, hotel rooms, limousines, or rental cars. Fraport Executive Aviation also takes care of applying for takeoff or landing rights and collecting aviation security charges. An itemized receipt listing all individual fees is issued.

Fraport Executive Aviation provides comfortable transportation across the apron between planes and the GAT for passengers, crew, and luggage. The team also goes out of its way to ensure that crew members enjoy a pleasant stay in a separate lounge.

Fraport Executive Aviation communicates with aircraft using corporate frequencies, receives and secures them, reports flight data and TOBT, and provides crews with weather and air traffic control information. It also arranges and coordinates special services such as loading and unloading, fresh water, fueling, deicing etc. as required for certain aircraft types (including ambulance aircraft) and/or special guests.

The heart of Frankfurt Airport’s ground handling infrastructure is the automated baggage conveyor system, which has been operating for 50 years. Globally unmatched in terms of its size, functionality, and capacity, this system plays a key role in ensuring fast inter-flight transfers for passengers and their luggage and has given Frankfurt Airport a major advantage as an air travel hub.

With a total of more than 80 kilometers of conveyors, on peak days the system quickly and reliably transports more than 110,000 baggage items to their destinations. This translates into up to 20,000 successfully transported items per hour at a normal speed of 2.5 meters per second.

Consistently dependable, intelligent baggage management ensures speedy transfers. The system’s reliability rate is 98.69%, and it is without par anywhere in the world in terms of its size and velocity. Ongoing modernization work and a steady stream of fresh innovations ensure that the technology remains state-of-the-art. The approach pioneered by Fraport of securely transporting baggage items in coded tray-type containers has meanwhile also been adopted by other airports and proved its worth at major aviation hubs worldwide. The latest new development: integration of automatic 100% x-ray inspections of non-EU transfer baggage.

Our activities also include aircraft ground handling:

- Passenger boarding bridges, plus passenger steps and passenger busses in case of failure of the passenger boarding bridge

- A Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) network for enhanced operational efficiency and passenger handling: provision and operation of an airport-wide LAN for linking CUTE workplaces based on a concession agreement concluded with SITA and a service level agreement among SITA, CUTE users, and Fraport AG.

  • A central handling system for departing and transferring luggage: provision and operation of the system at Terminals 1 and 2, including a backup function in case the system should fail
  • Installation and operation of handling systems for departing luggage at gates where this is possible.
  • Installation and operation of a central handling system for arriving baggage, with a sufficient number of arrival baggage systems in concourses A, B, C, D, and E.
  • Installation and operation of systems for bulky baggage handling
  • Central baggage monitoring systems: installation and operation of a system that is able to prevent unaccompanied baggage items from traveling on a flight. Unaccompanied baggage must be cleared by the airline in order to be carried.
  • Conveyor belt for misrouted baggage, handling of express baggage, reclassification of baggage, and baggage tracing for managing baggage items that have not followed their designated paths in the handling process or have been incorrectly assigned.
  • Feeding of baggage into the system for inspecting check-in luggage (in compliance with Articles 5 and 8 of the German Aviation Security Act)
  • Storage of baggage that is subject to customs duties in compliance with the applicable customs regulations
  • Capacity: approx. 20,500 baggage items per hour
  • Reliability: 98.69%
  • Total length: more than 80 km
  • Average speed: 2.5 m/s, maximum speed: 5 m/s
  • The current record: 119,499 baggage items moved on a single day
